The Bureau of Elements is attacked by Transuranic agents and their allies, a vicious extradimensional race called the Kra'al.  The pocket dimension containing Bureau headquarters is destroyed when Jackson Diamond's last act is to trigger an Arithyde's Box inside it.  Shortly afterwards, Mercury reports that Core Central survived and the second sealed file in the Master Node has opened.

Returning to Arcadia, Pandora finds the rulers of the Unseelie Court have been killed and replaced by her half-brother Prince Wormwood.

Penny's intellect starts to develop at an astonishing rate as Synaptine from her own pituitary gland begins to affect her brain.

During an expedition to South America, Jake encounters the Cult of the Jaguar.  They immediately recognise him as the one spoken of in their founder's prophecies.

Louise discovers that John Lucas knows she is Kindred.  Shortly afterwards, part of the secret of his own identity emerges when he is buried beneath a collapsing building and rendered insubstantial.

Yozikiri of the Ravening Ones awakens from torpor.

Tracing funds siphoned from Louise's business interests, the Parallax Club locate the hidden island of Chambano and discover the existence of Project Freedom.

July 17th, 1999 - The Kraken awakes.  The Sundering creates a massive reality storm in the Umbra.  Portals collapse, severing Earth Prime from the other dimensions.

The Kindred hold a Grand Conclave to discuss the rumours of Gehenna and the Nictuku.  The recently-awoken Tiamat of the Ravening Ones interrupts the proceedings and devours several of the attendees.

The Parallax Club discover the Black City, Chorazin, long thought lost in the mists of time.  Within is the body of Goliath of Gath, the huge corpse containing the spirit of Nergal the Death God, one of the Firstfallen.  Louise enacts a spell exiling the fallen angel's spirit to the outer darkness.

The Methuselah Cappadocius awakens and travels to India to confront Samael of the Ravening Ones.  Both vampires die, as do over 500,000 Bangladeshis in the ensuing hurricane.  The dying Cappadocius tells Louise that the other sleeping Methuselahs have sensed the awakening of the Nictuku and are themselves stirring from torpor.  The Parallax Club share a Vision of the ancients' rise.

Fiend of the Seven enacts a massive ritual to poison all the world's crops.  The Parallax Club intervene, but Fiend is still able to do a great deal of damage.  Commodity prices soar, and journalists across the globe report panic buying and widespread famines becoming more likely in the next few years.  The third sealed file in the Master Node opens.

End of the year - The Eye of the Wyrm appears in the heavens as 2000 AD dawns.
