The Eye of the Wyrm

As the year 2000 AD dawned across the globe, even as humanity thought in terms of the Millennium Bug and apocryphal prophecies of doom, something both real and terrible entered reality.

A new star has appeared in the sky between Ursa Major and Leo.  Invisible to most mortals, to those who know of its existence and deliberately search the heavens it looks like a small red star - fairly bright as stars go, but easy to overlook.

To those in the Umbra or those with supernatural senses, however, the red star burns as brightly as Venus, and a red haze or nimbus surrounds it like the halo of a comet.  Anyone who can see the halo instinctively knows that it foretells evil; its hellfire glow rouses lycanthropes like the Rage of the full moon and stirs the Darksouls of Kindred.

The legends of the Changing Breeds speak of the red star as Anthelios, the 'Anti-Sun'.  They also call it the Eye of the Wyrm, and say that its coming heralds a great war in the heavens and the Last Days of the Earth.

They may be right.
