The Kraken

There are things that slumber deep beneath the earth, things from the dawn of time itself.  The Bible calls these chthonic sleepers the Nephilim, the 'giants in the earth', and the greatest of them is the monstrous sea-beast known as the Kraken.

Its true size is unknown, but it is believed to be over a mile in length.  It is a squid-like monstrosity with thousands of tentacles and unimaginable destructive power.  It is a spawn of The Wyrm, and like its creator exists only to bring about chaos, horror and corruption.

The Parallax Club first encountered the Kraken in the Bermuda Triangle, the massive dimensional anomaly centred on its unholy resting place.  Even in its long sleep it was responsible for many of the horror stories attributed to the Triangle, and it was the reality-warping presence of Mendelevium on the same ship as the Club (see Transuranic Agents) that finally awoke it.

Now awake, it prowls the seas.  News reports of missing fishing boats and vanished yachts follow in its wake, and none know its true intentions.  What is known is that it is sentient, with an evil, utterly inhuman intelligence, and that for some reason Smedley was able to communicate with it and even exert a limited level of control over its actions.  How he was able to do this remains a mystery.
