The Shadow Curtain

In 1991, as political change continued to sweep through the former Soviet Union, something else occurred in the wilds of Russia.  A great ritual was enacted, using sorcery of a power unseen on Earth for millennia, and at its conclusion a vast mystical barrier appeared in the Umbra.

The barrier encircled Russia and its former client states, extending as far as St. Petersburg and Odessa in the west to the easternmost tip of Siberia.  Invisible to mortal eyes, to those who could look into the spirit world it was an impenetrable wall of swirling shadows and dark fire.  Behind it, Russia was totally cut off from all telepathic, spiritual and magical communication.  Within weeks all contact was lost with the Kindred of Russia, and those sent by the Grand Council to investigate suffered a similar fate.

Below is the transcript of a report smuggled out from behind the so-called Shadow Curtain by a Nosferatu agent last year.  It is the first account to emerge of what is apparently going on behind the magical barrier, and a copy was intercepted by the Parallax Club as it arrived in London.  The cover note that accompanied it was of some concern to Louise, as will become evident, but as yet there is no clear evidence who the message was addressed to, who sent it, or why.
